Build a price range you can compare

Drug companies advertised cash prices mostly between about $149 and $499 a month for selected weight and diabetes medicines at the September 26, 2026 check.

The amount depended on the product and prescribed strength; some late refills could cost more.

A “month” did not always mean the same supply across those offers.

Those prices are for medicine paid for without insurance. Ask separately about visits, tests and other care. Get a written price for your exact prescription and the supply it includes.

Separate the medicine from the service

A monthly membership fee may leave the medicine as an extra charge; that was the common setup among services checked in September 2026.

Only a few services were checked, so this does not describe every service.

Ask for each charge in writing:

  • The first visit to check your health and any ongoing membership.
  • The medicine and the supply included.
  • Any tests, delivery or other charges.
  • Follow-up visits and help between visits.

Ask which charges still apply if no prescription is written. Ask how to stop a membership and what a missed refill changes.

Cash, list price and insurance are different amounts

For brand-name weight and diabetes drugs, the drug company’s published list price, its cash offer and what you pay with insurance can differ.

A drug company’s cash offer is paid outside insurance; that spending goes toward neither your plan’s deductible nor its annual limit on your payments.

Your deductible is the amount you pay for some care before your health plan starts paying for that care. Ask the plan to explain what counts toward yours and toward its yearly limit.

Check the date on the offer

The September 2026 review found that several drug-company savings cards and offers have terms that expire December 31, 2026.

An offer’s ending date gives no answer about the deal that might follow. Ask for the price after the offer and whether it is promised in writing.
